Ghana government employees face salary suspension over NIA details

The Controller and Accountant-General’s Department (CAGD) has announced that government employees in Ghana will face salary suspensions starting September 15, 2026, if they do not have valid National Identification Authority (NIA) details captured on the government payroll system.

The directive is part of a nationwide employee re-verification exercise intended to ensure the accuracy of identification details on the payroll. The move follows the rollout of an upgraded Employee Payslip (E-Payslip) system, which revealed discrepancies where some NIA numbers did not match NIA records or were missing entirely.

Human Resource departments within Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) have been instructed to correct these details. To facilitate corrections or the insertion of NIA numbers, employees must submit an application accompanied by an authorizing cover letter from their head of institution. The CAGD noted that physical copies of NIA cards are no longer required for submission, as the focus is on ensuring digital data accuracy.
