Ghana government launches flood mitigation at Mallam Junction
The government has launched renewed flood intervention efforts at Mallam Junction to address recurring flooding in the area. This initiative is part of a broader response to tackle landfill issues, blocked drainage channels, and environmental challenges affecting Mallam and surrounding communities in Greater Accra.
Operational teams and personnel have been deployed to improve stormwater flow. The intervention follows coordination between government agencies, the Weija-Gbawe Municipal Assembly, and private-sector stakeholders, following engagements initiated by Jubilee House.
As part of the mitigation strategy, the 48 Engineer Regiment of the Ghana Armed Forces has been working to reclaim the Lafa water retention basin by removing accumulated silt and solid waste. The project also involves the removal of illegal structures and the planned construction of protective embankments to restore waterway integrity.
