Ghana health authorities warn against unprofessional use of nursing uniforms on social media
Health authorities and professional associations in Ghana have issued warnings against the unprofessional use of nursing and midwifery uniforms in social media content.
Tony Goodman, Acting Head of the Health Training Institutions (HTI) Directorate, stated that trainees and professionals risk dismissal or disciplinary action for creating social media entertainment while wearing official attire. He noted that the HTI, in collaboration with the Nursing and Midwifery Council, is monitoring online behavior to protect the dignity and public trust of the profession.
Additionally, Perpetual Ofori-Ampofo, President of the Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association (GRNMA), cautioned both practitioners and the general public against using uniforms to promote unethical behavior. She emphasized that the uniform represents ethics, discipline, and responsibility, urging healthcare professionals to use social media to create public awareness rather than undermining their professional identity.
