Ghana Health Ministry reviews NDC manifesto commitments
The Ghana Ministry of Health has launched a three-day mid-year review in Ho to assess progress on health sector commitments outlined in the NDC 2024 Manifesto. Led by Health Minister Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, the meeting brings together heads of agencies, institutions, and programmes to evaluate the implementation of key healthcare pledges.
Key initiatives under review include the Free Primary Healthcare programme, the expansion of the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS), and the Ghana Medical Trust Fund, also known as ‘MahamaCare’. The review also covers the retooling of health facilities, the introduction of specialised nursing programmes, and the construction of regional hospitals in six newly created regions.
Participants are tasked with presenting updates on achievements and challenges to identify implementation gaps. Additionally, the retreat includes training in Public Financial Management to improve accountability and the efficient use of public resources within the health sector.
