Ghana High Court ends 13‑year amputee football governance dispute

The Ghanaian High Court delivered a landmark judgment, ruling in favour of the National Sports Authority (NSA) and the National Paralympic Committee (NPC) Ghana over the governance of amputee football. Justice Jerome Noble‑Nkrumah dismissed all claims brought by the Ghana Amputee Football Federation (GAFF) and awarded GH₵60,000 in legal costs to each of the NSA and NPC, despite their higher original claims of GH₵250,000 and GH₵200,000 respectively.

The court also issued perpetual orders preventing the GAFF and five individuals – Francis Adjetey Sowah, Charles Narh Teye, John Kuku Dsane, Philip Cecil Richter and Benjamin Charles Armah – from associating with amputee sport in Ghana. The dispute, which began in 2013‑2014 over which body held the legal mandate to administer the sport, lasted 13 years and was one of the longest‑running sports governance battles in the country. The ruling is expected to provide administrative clarity and enable the development of amputee football domestically and internationally.
