Ghana insurance sector faces actuarial skills shortage

Dr. Richard Okyere, Rector of the Ghana Insurance University College (GIU), has highlighted significant employment opportunities within Ghana’s insurance industry, particularly for those skilled in actuarial science and statistics. He noted that the sector is currently facing a shortage of skilled professionals to manage complex financial risks.

Okyere emphasized that Ghana’s low insurance penetration provides substantial room for industry growth, which in turn creates a high demand for manpower. He encouraged graduates with strong mathematical and analytical interests to pursue careers in these specialized fields.

As a higher education institution owned by industry stakeholders, GIU aims to bridge the gap between academic training and professional practice. The college offers specialized degree programs, including a Bachelor of Science in Actuarial Science with Insurance and Statistics with Insurance, to address the national skills gap.
