Ghana Interior Minister orders probe into police custody breach

Ghanaian Interior Minister Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak has ordered the Inspector-General of Police to investigate a security breach at the Ghana Police Service headquarters. The directive follows a viral video showing a civilian slapping a detained pastor while the suspect was in handcuffs. The pastor had been arrested for allegedly insulting Prophet Muhammad.

The Minister has instructed the police to determine how civilians gained access to the detainee and to identify any officers who facilitated, allowed, or ignored the breach. All supervising officers responsible for the custody of the individual are to be questioned.

Furthermore, the Minister directed that the civilians involved in the assault be identified and arrested, and that any police officers found responsible face disciplinary action. The goal of these directives is to establish accountability and ensure all parties involved are treated strictly according to the law.
