Ghana Interior Minister urges enforcement of anti-bushfire bye-laws
Ghana's Interior Minister, Muntaka Mubarak, has called on traditional authorities to implement and enforce anti-bushfire bye-laws to mitigate outbreaks during the 2026/2027 season. Speaking at the launch of the 2026/2027 National Bushfire Prevention Campaign in Atebubu, Mubarak emphasized that fire prevention is a collective responsibility involving farmers, hunters, and local assemblies.
Chief Fire Officer Daniella Mawusi Ntow Sarpong noted that while nationwide fire outbreaks decreased from 631 recorded between January and August 2025 to 235 during the same period in 2026, continued collaborative efforts are necessary. The campaign focuses on sustainable environmental development and calls for increased support from security services, the media, and the general public.
