Ghana Interior Minister urges officials to visit prisons
Interior Minister Mubarak Mohammed Muntaka has called on ministers, Members of Parliament, and local chief executives to conduct firsthand visits to Ghana's prisons. Speaking before Parliament's Public Accounts Committee, Muntaka stated that his own visits to six facilities since taking office profoundly changed his perspective on inmate welfare and the challenges facing the Ghana Prisons Service.
Muntaka proposed a deliberate program for public officials to witness prison conditions directly to inform better decision-making. Additionally, he urged public institutions and private companies to redirect a portion of their corporate social responsibility (CSR) spending toward prison rehabilitation, suggesting that at least five percent of such expenditures be channeled to the service.
