Ghana Interior Minister visits officer injured in Hamile explosion
Interior Minister Mohammed Mubarak Muntaka and Ghana Immigration Service management visited Inspector Rashad Yussif at the 37 Military Hospital in Accra. The officer sustained serious injuries during a deadly explosion at Hamile in the Upper West Region on November 3, 2026.
The blast occurred during a border patrol operation when a tricycle reportedly transporting suspected explosives went off along an unapproved route. The incident resulted in the deaths of one immigration officer and two civilians.
Minister Muntaka addressed Parliament regarding the incident, noting that the Ghana Air Force facilitated the officer's transfer from Nandom Hospital to Accra. He pledged that the government would strengthen border security and intensify enforcement to combat the smuggling of explosives. He emphasized that while legal explosives are traceable through Ministry of Interior protocols, the porous nature of the borders allows smugglers to bypass these systems with untraced materials.
