Ghana Interior Ministry prioritizes disaster risk reduction and security
Ghana’s Minister for the Interior, Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, has reaffirmed the government's commitment to strengthening disaster risk reduction. Speaking at a high-level symposium for the International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction, the Ministry emphasized the need for proactive measures, institutional coordination, and community involvement to mitigate the impact of flooding, fires, and extreme weather.
To support these efforts, Presidential Adviser on National Resilience and Emergency Preparedness, Ernest Brogya Genfi, announced that President John Dramani Mahama has directed an assessment of Ghana’s national resilience and emergency preparedness architecture. Stakeholder consultations to inform a new strategic plan are scheduled to begin in November.
In a separate engagement, Interior Minister Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak met with the Ga Mantse, King Tackie Teiko Tsuru II, to discuss national security. The meeting focused on enhancing cooperation between government institutions and traditional authorities to combat crime and drug trafficking, with the Minister outlining strategies to improve intelligence-sharing to prevent the country from becoming a transit point for illicit drugs.
