Ghana International School celebrates 10th TIME Educators’ Conference
The Ghana International School (GIS) celebrated the 10th anniversary of its TIME Educators’ Conference in Accra. The initiative, themed ‘10 Years of Impact: Transforming Education, One Teacher at a TIME’, aims to strengthen teaching practices and improve learning outcomes by allowing educators to share practical methods and professional skills.
Keynote speaker Professor Jonathan Fletcher, founding dean of the University of Ghana’s School of Education and Leadership, noted a significant rise in teaching standards. He stated that while fewer than 10% of teachers met National Teachers’ Standards in 2017, at least 68% are now capable of doing so. Fletcher credited the conference with helping to propagate improved practices throughout the country.
Addressing the rise of artificial intelligence, Fletcher identified AI as a valuable educational tool but emphasized the necessity of ethical use and academic integrity. GIS Principal and Head of School, Nadia O. Bruce-Müller, noted that the conference began in 2016 as an internal initiative to provide professional development opportunities for teachers.
