Ghana issues travel warning for overland trips to Senegal

Ghana’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has issued a travel advisory urging citizens, particularly members of the Tijjaniya Muslim Movement, to use air travel instead of overland routes when traveling to Senegal. The warning follows increased insecurity and attacks on transport convoys along major West African corridors.

Security concerns have intensified along the Bamako-Dakar and Conakry-Bamako routes. The Ministry noted that road travel through the Sahel has become increasingly dangerous, citing instances where truck drivers have abandoned routes due to fear, leaving shipping containers stranded. The advisory highlights that while Senegal remains safe, the transit corridors pose significant risks to civilian movement.
