Ghana Judicial Service staff declare indefinite nationwide strike
The Judicial Service Staff Association of Ghana (JUSAG) has declared an indefinite nationwide strike starting Monday, November 2, 2026. The industrial action follows the government's failure to approve a 2026 salary review and pay ten months of arrears.
JUSAG reported that the dispute began in December 2025 when proposals for salary and service condition reviews were submitted to the Judicial Council. Although the Judicial Council completed its recommendations and forwarded them to President John Dramani Mahama, the association claims the approval process has stalled at the Office of the President.
Court registries, bailiffs' offices, and other judicial operations across the country are expected to face significant disruptions. JUSAG has directed all staff to stay home until the government meets its demands, which include the immediate approval of salary recommendations and the payment of arrears covering January to October 2026.
