Ghana labor market shows growth as job vacancies rise
Ghana’s labor market is showing signs of recovery, with a significant surge in job advertisements recorded in June 2026. According to the Bank of Ghana’s July Monetary Policy Report, advertised vacancies reached 3,629 in June, marking a 45.00% increase compared to June 2025. While this monthly figure shows sharp momentum, the cumulative growth for the first half of 2026 was more modest, with 19,474 total vacancies representing a 4.70% increase over the same period in 2025.
Addressing the broader challenge of the skills gap, Northshore Apparel Ghana Limited has implemented a training-focused recruitment model. Despite receiving over 20,000 applications, many candidates lacked the technical skills required for apparel production. In collaboration with Ghana EXIM Bank, the Youth Employment Agency, and the National Youth Authority, the company expanded its pre-employment training program. This initiative has successfully trained approximately 2,000 young people for permanent placement, offering a potential blueprint for businesses to develop talent internally rather than competing for a limited pool of pre-skilled workers.
