Ghana Labour Ministry urges retirement security for health workers
The Ministry of Labour, Jobs and Employment has called for enhanced protection for workers’ retirement years to ensure financial security and dignity in old age. This directive was issued during the 4th Annual General Meeting of the Health Sector Occupational Pension Scheme (HSOPS) held in Kumasi.
Shadrack Mensah, Director of Research at the Ministry, emphasized that workers contributing to national development deserve peace of mind after their active careers. The Ministry identified pension security as a vital component of social protection and decent work.
Regarding financial performance, the HSOPS reported paying GH¢116.7 million in benefits in 2025, a significant increase from the GH¢26.3 million paid in 2021. HSOPS Board of Trustees Chairman Frederick Mensah Acheampong stated the scheme is working to improve benefit accessibility through digital platforms and more robust, diversified investment strategies.
