Ghana launches digital system to monitor child labour
Ghana has launched the Ghana Child Labour Monitoring System (GCLMS), a digital platform designed to improve the identification, documentation, and follow-up of child labour cases nationwide.
The system aims to track children exposed to hazardous or exploitative work, particularly in sectors such as agriculture, domestic work, and artisanal small-scale mining. By making the GCLMS interoperable with existing child protection systems, the government intends to enhance coordination and case referrals among various agencies.
The rollout follows a training program in Bibiani organized by the International Labour Organization (ILO) through its ACCEL Africa Project, in partnership with the Ministry of Labour, Jobs and Employment. The initiative focuses on providing stakeholders with reliable data to understand the causes of child labour and ensure appropriate interventions reach affected families.
