Ghana launches Marrify app to verify marital status

The Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection (MoGCSP) has partnered with Marry Right Ghana to launch Marrify, a new digital application designed to verify the marital status of prospective partners in Ghana.

Launched in Accra on August 28, 2026, the app functions as a searchable digital registry. It integrates legal data from the Registrar-General’s Department, courts, local assemblies, and the Ghana Gazette to provide transparency in marriage administration. The tool aims to prevent emotional, financial, and legal complications resulting from undisclosed marital histories.

In addition to individual status checks, Marrify allows the public to verify the licensing and registration of marriage venues, churches, pastors, and Imams. Dr Agnes Naa Momo Lartey, the Minister of Gender, Children and Social Protection, stated that the initiative is intended to strengthen public confidence and protect couples from entering unions based on false or incomplete information.
