Ghana medical students sue Medical and Dental Council over new exam

The Federation of Ghana Medical Students’ Associations (FGMSA), alongside affected graduating medical and dental students, has filed a lawsuit against the Medical and Dental Council (MDC) in the High Court of Justice, Human Rights Division, in Accra.

The plaintiffs are seeking an injunction to halt the implementation of the Common Registration Examination (CRE), a new licensing exam introduced by the MDC. The legal action aims to restrain the council from conducting the examination until the court determines the substantive legal issues surrounding its introduction.

According to the FGMSA, the lawsuit follows unsuccessful attempts to resolve concerns through direct engagement with the MDC and other relevant authorities. The Federation stated it remains committed to protecting the interests of medical and dental students and will pursue the legal process to its conclusion.
