Ghana Medical Trust Fund stakeholders discuss healthcare access
Stakeholders in Ghana are engaging in discussions regarding the Ghana Medical Trust Fund, also known as MahamaCares, to improve healthcare accessibility and financing. During a forum in Tamale, Northern Regional Minister Ali Adolf John Mburidiba emphasized the need for public education and stakeholder collaboration to ensure vulnerable patients can benefit from the fund.
In Bolgatanga, Dr. Joseph Kojo Tambil, Medical Director of the Upper East Regional Hospital, urged the government to upgrade the facility to a teaching hospital. He argued that the current status as a secondary referral center limits the hospital's access to critical resources and equipment, as healthcare allocations in Ghana often prioritize teaching hospitals over regional ones. Dr. Tambil noted that establishing a teaching hospital in the Upper East Region is essential for attracting investment and providing advanced medical services.
