Ghana Meteorological Agency warns of severe thunderstorms and rainstorms
The Ghana Meteorological Agency (GMet) has issued weather warnings for thunderstorms and severe rainstorms affecting various parts of Ghana. A strong rainstorm detected over northern Benin is moving westward and is expected to impact the Upper East, North East, Northern, Upper West, and Savannah regions.
These storms may bring heavy rainfall, strong winds, and lightning. Residents in the northern corridor, including Yendi, Tamale, Bolgatanga, and Nalerigu, are bracing for thunderstorms, while Wa and Jirapa are forecast to receive rain without storm activity. In southern Ghana, areas such as Ho, Koforidua, and Akim Oda may experience drizzle or slight rain.
GMet has advised residents to stay indoors during heavy rain and lightning, avoid open areas or standing under isolated trees, and exercise caution while driving due to reduced visibility and slippery roads. Mist and fog patches are also expected in coastal, mountainous, and forest zones, which may reduce visibility in the early morning hours.
