Ghana Ministers’ Awards Ceremony Criticized Amid Accra Flooding
A private awards ceremony titled “Ministers of State Awards” was held in Accra to honour members of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) government. The event was organized by a private entity and took place while the capital was coping with severe flooding.
Civil‑society figures, including Prof. H. Kwasi Prempeh of the Ghana Centre for Democratic Development, and IMANI Africa vice‑president Kofi Bentil, condemned the ceremony as insensitive and nonsensical, questioning its timing, credibility and purpose. NDC activists also joined the criticism, saying ministers appeared out of touch with citizens suffering from the floods.
