Ghana Ministry of Energy targets September completion for temporary power control room

Ghana’s Ministry of Energy has announced that a temporary power control room is now expected to be completed by the end of September. This revised timeline extends an earlier target of August.

Ministry spokesperson Richmond Rockson explained that engineers and the Energy Minister opted for an interim arrangement to allow for the quicker resumption of electricity generation and supply following a major power system disruption on April 30. While this temporary structure supports power evacuation during the construction of a permanent facility, the absence of a switchyard leaves the system vulnerable to volatility. Rockson noted that disturbances along transmission lines could still affect network stability, but emphasized that the situation has improved significantly since power was initially restored.

The decision to prioritize the temporary facility was made to avoid the delay of building a completely new control room before restoring service to the public.
