Ghana Moves Toward Consolidated National Development Plan After NDPC Briefing

The National Development Planning Commission (NDPC) of Ghana, chaired by Dr Nii Moi Thompson, briefed Speaker of Parliament Alban Kingsford Sumana Bagbin in Accra about a proposed Consolidated National Development Plan. The draft aims to merge four existing, largely unimplemented frameworks—the 40‑Year Development Plan (2016), Ghana Beyond Aid (2019), Ghana@100 (2019) and Vision 2057 (2024)—into a single, legislated strategy that Parliament could adopt as the "legislated will of the people." The plan is intended to provide a stable, long‑term roadmap for economic transformation and shared prosperity, helping Ghana escape the lower‑middle‑income trap it has occupied since 2010. The Speaker welcomed the briefing, pledged parliamentary support, and highlighted the need for governance reforms, ethical leadership, and broad stakeholder consultation, including political parties, traditional authorities, faith‑based groups and public submissions.
