Ghana MP Faustina Akurugu warns against illegal road encroachments and reviews project progress

Ghanaian Member of Parliament Faustina Elikplim Akurugu inspected ongoing road rehabilitation works in the Dome Kwabenya constituency on July 28, 2026, accompanied by Ga East Municipal Chief Executive Edmund Agboh, municipal assembly officials and engineers. The tour covered the Grand Star Hotel‑Nama Road, the Ashongman Pure Water Road, road works at Taifa and a street‑light installation stretch. Akurugu praised the contractors, noting that many projects were about 80% complete, but warned that illegal encroachments on public roads, filling of a drainage retention pond for building purposes, and the indiscriminate placement of Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) power poles were unacceptable. She stated, “Public roads belong to everyone, and no individual has the right to appropriate them for private use,” and added, “It won’t happen. We will not allow anyone to fill a retention pond.” The MP called for better coordination with utility providers to avoid delays and affirmed that the Ga East Municipal Assembly would work with relevant agencies to protect infrastructure and enforce planning regulations.
