Ghana MP Sarah Adwoa Safo injured in Kwabenya shooting over church succession feud

A dispute over the leadership succession of the Kristo Asafo Mission in Ghana escalated into a violent confrontation on 21 June 2026 at a residence in Kwabenya. Former MP Sarah Adwoa Safo arrived to serve court documents and was denied entry; armed private security guards fired, wounding her in the left ear and lodging bullet pellets near her brain.

The incident sparked opposing narratives: the Safo family accuses successor Israel Kwadwo Safo Akofena of opening fire, while the mission claims Safo rammed her vehicle into the gates and threatened safety. Safo denied firing any shot. Police arrested six private security guards, seized five pump‑action rifles, a Taurus pistol and ammunition, and suspended the security company's licence. In response, Ghana authorities revoked all firearm licences nationwide.
