Ghana MPs demand Attorney General's ouster over disputed GH¢350 million flood relief payout

Members of Ghana's parliamentary minority have called for the immediate dismissal of Attorney General and Minister for Justice Dr. Dominic Ayine. The caucus alleges that the GH¢350 million emergency fund released for flood‑victim relief was withdrawn in breach of a court order that had attached the Contingency Fund, and possibly from an unauthorized public account.

Deputy Minority Leader Patricia Appiagyei questioned how the money was transferred, saying the Ministry of Finance’s statement that the funds came from the Contingency Fund is inconsistent with the legal status of that account. She warned that using an alternative source without parliamentary approval violates the 1992 Constitution and the Public Financial Management Act. The minority also urged President John Dramani Mahama to intervene and remove Ayine, and asked the Bank of Ghana governor to disclose the exact account used for the disbursement.
