Ghana NACP receives new condom consignment to address shortages
The National AIDS/STI Control Programme (NACP) has received a new consignment of condoms intended to replenish national stocks that have fallen below required levels. The shortage has raised concerns regarding access to essential tools for preventing HIV, sexually transmitted infections, and unintended pregnancies.
Distribution to health facilities is currently delayed while the Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) conducts mandatory quality and safety assessments. NACP Programme Manager Dr. Emmanuel A. A. Teviu stated that while the programme is working with the FDA to expedite the process, they will not compromise on quality assurance.
Dr. Teviu did not provide a specific timeline for the release of the supplies but expressed optimism that the certification process will be completed soon, allowing for wider availability across health facilities.
