Ghana names Foreign Affairs facility after Ambassador James Gbeho

Ghana's Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that a facility in its new ministerial block will be named in honour of the late Ambassador James Victor Gbeho. The decision was revealed by Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa during a tribute at Gbeho's state funeral on July 31.

Ambassador Gbeho, who died on 14 June 2026 at age 91, served as Ghana's Foreign Affairs Minister from 1997 to 2001, headed the ECOWAS Commission, and held diplomatic posts in several countries. The naming aims to preserve his legacy and recognise his contributions to Ghanaian and African diplomacy, peacebuilding and public service.
