Ghana narcotics commission partners with postal regulator to curb drug trafficking
The Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) has renewed its partnership with the Postal and Courier Services Regulatory Commission of Ghana to combat illicit drug trafficking through the postal and courier sector. The collaboration aims to tighten security, improve parcel detection, and support Ghana’s goal of becoming a drug-free society.
During a meeting on October 13, 2026, NACOC Director-General Major General Maxwell Obuba Mantey pledged to provide technical assistance, training, and intelligence-gathering support to the regulator. He highlighted the growing concern regarding traffickers using digital platforms and exploiting courier services to move narcotics.
To strengthen enforcement, Major General Mantey urged the implementation of stricter parcel verification procedures and encouraged service providers to conduct thorough background checks on employees to prevent internal exploitation by trafficking networks.
