Ghana national football teams reflect on recent international campaigns

Ghanaian football teams are navigating different stages of international competition. Defender Gideon Mensah reflected on the Black Stars' performance during the World Cup, noting that their opening 1-0 victory over Panama was a defining moment that provided the team with the belief necessary to compete in a difficult group.

Following that win, Ghana secured a goalless draw against England before being eliminated from the tournament after a narrow defeat to Croatia and a subsequent 1-0 loss to Colombia in the Round of 32. Mensah, who recently moved to 1. FC Köln, highlighted the Panama result as a standout memory that transformed the team's outlook.

On the women's side, the Black Queens are competing in the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON). After a 2-1 quarter-final defeat to Malawi, where Chantelle Boye-Hlorkah scored early for Ghana, the team is preparing for a placement match against Côte d’Ivoire to conclude their tournament campaign.
