Ghana National Petroleum Corporation targets oil production recovery

The Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC) is addressing a five-year consecutive decline in the country’s crude oil production. According to the GNPC 2025 Annual Report, total production from the Jubilee, TEN, and Sankofa Gye Nyame fields fell to 37.30 million barrels in 2025.

Specific field data shows significant drops in output. The TEN field, which produced 23.56 million barrels in 2018, fell to 5.83 million barrels in 2025. Sankofa Gye Nyame also saw a decline from its 2020 peak of 18.70 million barrels to 9.26 million barrels in 2025. Jubilee remains the largest producing asset.

To combat this trend, GNPC is shifting its focus toward reserve replacement and exploration. The corporation has identified the Eban-Akoma discoveries in the Cape Three Points Block 4 as having achieved commerciality. Moving forward, GNPC aims to accelerate gas commercialization, attract new upstream investment, and advance exploration activities in the Voltaian Basin to ensure the long-term sustainability of the upstream sector.
