Ghana NRSA confirms motorists' right to record police stops

Kwame Koduah Atuahene, the Director of Regulations, Inspections and Compliance at Ghana’s National Road Safety Authority (NRSA), has confirmed that motorists have the right to record police officers during traffic stops.

Mr. Atuahene stated that such recordings can be used as admissible evidence in court should a dispute arise between a driver and law enforcement. He encouraged motorists to document encounters, especially if they believe an officer is acting improperly, to ensure accountability and transparency.

Additionally, the NRSA highlighted the potential of automated traffic enforcement systems. These technologies can provide independent evidence of offenses, such as speeding or running red lights, by capturing vehicle registration numbers and video footage.
