Ghana operators warn of 20% fare rise unless Kasoa‑Winneba road repaired

Transport operators in Ghana have issued a two‑week ultimatum to the government, threatening a 20% fare increase on the Kasoa‑Winneba route from June 29 if urgent repairs are not started. The Ghana Private Road Transport Union said the road “continues to cause damage to vehicles, increase fuel consumption, and create long delays for drivers and passengers,” and the fare adjustment would cover extra fuel, maintenance and vehicle damage.

Meanwhile, commuters across Accra report chronic overcrowding, long queues and travel times that have tripled on key corridors such as the Circle–Nsawam and Kasoa routes. Poor road conditions, especially after recent rains, have amplified delays and forced higher fares. Both operators and consumer groups are calling on the Ministry of Roads and Highways to accelerate road upgrades and enforce transport regulations to alleviate the daily ordeal for thousands of workers.
