Ghana Parliament backs OSP probe into GH₵70k vetting payment

Ghana's Parliament has formally endorsed an investigation by the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) into allegations involving a GH₵70,000 payment. The probe concerns money reportedly linked to the Appointments Committee's vetting of ministerial and Supreme Court nominees.

A memorandum dated September 2, 2026, alleged that Asokwa MP and Deputy Minority Leader Patricia Appiagyei received the funds. While Appiagyei has denied receiving or discussing any such payment and characterized the memorandum as fake, reports indicate she directed the cash to be returned to Majority Chief Whip Rockson-Nelson Etse Dafeamekpor due to concerns regarding its origin.

Former Auditor-General Daniel Yaw Domelevo has supported the OSP's decision to investigate, suggesting a forensic examination of the disputed documents to determine if signatures were forged. Domelevo also raised questions regarding the propriety of MPs receiving payments from the Presidency for vetting exercises, arguing that such allowances should be managed through Parliament’s own budget.
