Ghana plans cut-flower export corridor via Tamale hub

The Ghanaian government is planning to establish a cut-flower export corridor to transform the nation’s horticultural sector. Announced by Augustus ‘Goosie’ Obuadum Tanoh, Presidential Advisor on the 24-Hour Economy, the initiative aims to create a production pathway along the Daboya-Singa corridor in the Northern Region.

The strategy focuses on building a complete industrial ecosystem rather than just increasing cultivation. This includes developing aggregation, cold-chain logistics, grading, packaging, and certification systems. Under the plan, flowers would be airlifted from the Tamale Air Cargo Hub to international markets in Europe, the Gulf, and West Africa.

The 24-Hour Economy Secretariat is reportedly working with an unnamed private sector investor to develop this corridor. The government also intends to use its Shiqpon peri-urban agricultural programme to connect greenhouse and micro-irrigated food production to cold storage and markets. Kenya’s successful flower export industry has been cited as the benchmark for this developmental model.
