Ghana police arrest suspect in fatal beating at Assin Akrofuom

A 31-year-old man, Kofi Amankwa, has died after being tied to a pole and beaten at Assin Akrofuom in Ghana's Central Region following accusations of theft.

Conflicting accounts have emerged regarding the motive for the attack. Amankwa's sister, Ama Bimpoma, alleged that her brother was assaulted after being accused of stealing coconut seedlings. However, the suspect, identified as Yaw Forest, told police he confronted Amankwa after allegedly catching him stealing half a bag of cocoa beans.

Chief Superintendent Agyemang Badu, the Central North Regional Crime Officer, confirmed that the suspect surrendered to the police and is undergoing processing. The suspect is expected to appear before the Assin Fosu District Court to face formal charges as investigations continue to establish the exact circumstances of the death.
