Ghana pastor Nana Yaw Bonsu Kwarteng arrested on romance fraud and image‑sharing charges

The Ghana Police Service arrested Nana Yaw Bonsu Kwarteng, a 35‑year‑old online pastor, and his wife Sally Akosua Amoasah after investigations revealed a multi‑year romance‑scam operation. Kwarteng used an Instagram account to pose as a pastor, promising marriage, presenting promise rings, and meeting victims' families. He obtained intimate images and videos, which he later used to blackmail the women into sending money, and also solicited funds for a fictitious car‑tyre import business, collecting thousands of dollars, including US$33,000 and GH₵25,000 from individual complainants.

Seven victims, among them an ambassador and businesswomen, reported losses dating back to 2021. Both suspects were arraigned before Accra Circuit Court 1 on six counts of conspiracy to commit crime, defrauding by false pretences and non‑consensual sharing of intimate images. Kwarteng was remanded in police custody while Amoasah was granted bail of GH₵100,000 with sureties. The case was adjourned to 6 August 2026, and police continue to receive further complaints as investigations proceed.
