Calls are growing in Ghana for mandatory lifestyle audits of elected officials to explain the rapid accumulation of luxury assets, offshore accounts and multiple properties that appear inconsistent with public salaries. Proponents argue that a data‑driven audit of declared income, tax records and asset acquisitions would expose unexplained wealth and restore public trust.

Investigative journalist Manasseh Azure Awuni highlighted the broader accountability gap, noting that many high‑profile investigations—such as the costly ambulance procurement deal and the recent MASLOC chief executive acquittal—have failed to produce convictions. He described the personal toll of probing corruption when evidence often does not lead to punishment, stressing that the financial burden ultimately falls on Ghanaian taxpayers.
