Ghana power outages scheduled as maintenance and floods disrupt supply

The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) announced scheduled daytime power outages from June 29 to July 1, with interruptions between 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. in parts of Accra, the Central Region and the Ashanti Region. The maintenance work aims to fix faults, upgrade the distribution system and improve reliability, affecting workers and businesses that rely on electricity during normal hours.

In addition, the Ghana Grid Company (GRIDCo) and ECG temporarily shut down the Mallam and Achimota primary substations after severe flooding in the Greater Accra Region threatened equipment and staff safety. The utilities warned that further interruptions could occur elsewhere if flood conditions persist, urging the public to report any electricity‑related hazards.

Both utilities said they are monitoring the situation and will restore supply as soon as conditions allow, apologising for the inconvenience and emphasizing the need for urgent repairs and safety precautions.
