Ghana President announces maize processing plant and industrial expansion

President John Dramani Mahama has announced several industrial initiatives aimed at boosting Ghana’s productivity and supporting the nation’s 24-hour economy agenda.

To address recurring maize surpluses in the Sissala enclave of the Upper West Region, the government plans to establish a major maize processing plant. The facility is intended to act as a guaranteed buyer for local farmers, preventing post-harvest losses and price crashes by processing the crop into value-added products such as flour, grits, and animal feed for domestic and export markets.

Additionally, the President commissioned the third phase of the Zonda Tech Ghana Limited vehicle assembly plant in Tema. He cited the expansion of this facility as evidence of the 24-hour economy taking shape, noting that continuous manufacturing operations help maximize production and create jobs. The Zonda Tech expansion is expected to generate significant direct employment and approximately 1,000 indirect jobs in supporting industries like logistics and maintenance.
