Ghana President commissions new ambassadors and celebrates UNHRC re-election
President John Dramani Mahama has commissioned four new ambassadors to represent Ghana in Angola, Qatar, Israel, and at the United Nations in Geneva. During a ceremony at Jubilee House, the President charged the diplomats to champion Ghana’s interests, protect citizens abroad, and secure economic opportunities through strategic engagement.
Mahama emphasized that the envoys must align their work with the national RESET agenda and economic policies, including the 24-hour economy and the Big Push infrastructure programme. He noted that shifting global alliances and competition over technology and natural resources require diplomats to act with confidence and clarity regarding national priorities.
Additionally, President Mahama commended Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa for leading Ghana’s successful campaign for re-election to the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC). Ghana secured 173 votes during the UN General Assembly elections to serve a term from January 2027 to December 2029. The President expressed expectations that the mission in Geneva will translate this international confidence into constructive service on the council.
