Ghana President Mahama conducts ministerial reshuffle and updates economic policy
President John Dramani Mahama has implemented a second major ministerial reshuffle in August 2026 to realign his administration. Key changes include the reassignment of Abdul-Rashid Pelpuo from the Ministry of Labour, Employment and Job Creation to serve as the Minister of State for Special Initiatives. He is succeeded at the Labour Ministry by Emmanuel Kwadwo Agyekum. Additionally, Deputy Minister for Defence Ernest Brogya Genfi has been moved to the Presidency to serve as Presidential Adviser on National Resilience and Emergency Preparedness.
Regarding economic policy, the government’s 24-Hour Economy programme is introducing stricter accountability measures. Presidential Advisor Augustus Goosie Tanoh stated that companies participating in the initiative must meet specific performance targets in employment creation, investment levels, and productivity to retain incentives. These incentives will include sunset clauses, typically lasting four to five years, to ensure support is rotated among different sectors. Dr. Abdul-Rashid Pelpuo noted that over 400 companies have expressed interest in the programme, which aims to drive holistic economic growth through private sector engagement.
