Ghana President Mahama appoints lawyer to lead Value for Money Office

President John Mahama has appointed Dr. Abdul-Baasit Aziz-Bamba as the Acting Director-General of the newly established Value for Money Office. Aziz-Bamba, a Harvard-trained lawyer and Senior Lecturer at the University of Ghana School of Law, was announced for the role on September 8, 2026.

The appointment follows the Value for Money Office Act, 2026 (Act 1172), which created the institution to scrutinize public expenditure and curb government waste. The office is tasked with ensuring that public funds are utilized effectively to provide tangible benefits to citizens.

Aziz-Bamba will serve in an acting capacity while the office's Governing Board provides formal advice in consultation with the Public Services Commission. This constitutional process is required before a substantive Director-General can be permanently confirmed.
