Ghana President Mahama discusses reviving Ghana Airways with UK lawmakers
President John Dramani Mahama met with British Members of Parliament and members of the House of Lords of Ghanaian heritage at the UK House of Commons to discuss strengthening bilateral relations. A primary focus of the discussions was the potential revival of Ghana Airways, the national carrier that ceased operations in 2004 due to financial difficulties.
The talks also aimed to increase competition and flight options on the Accra-London route to provide more choices and potentially lower costs for travelers. Beyond aviation, the delegation addressed various sectors including trade, investment, industrial growth, artificial intelligence, climate change, immigration, and opportunities for young people. The discussions also touched upon compensation for the historical slave trade.
