Ghana Public Accounts Committee urges tax recovery

The Public Accounts Committee (PAC) has directed the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) to increase efforts in recovering unpaid taxes from various businesses and public institutions. The directive follows reports from the Auditor-General identifying outstanding debts from entities such as the Ghana Airports Company Limited, Ghana Water Company, and the Electricity Company of Ghana.

While the GRA reported exceeding its tax revenue targets by the end of September, PAC Chairperson Abena Osei Asare emphasized the need for greater transparency in collection processes. Notably, the Electricity Company of Ghana has already repaid GH¢1.3 billion of its GH¢1.4 billion tax debt.

In a separate briefing, the National Petroleum Authority (NPA) reported that 93 per cent of vehicles previously involved in licensing irregularities had secured the necessary permits as of May 2026. The NPA also issued warnings against the illegal siphoning of fuel from tankers involved in road accidents.
