Ghana Publishing Company MD seeks clarity on GH¢22m VAT debt
Nana Kwasi Boatey, the Managing Director of the state-owned Ghana Publishing Company Limited (GPCL), has called on his predecessor, David Asante Boateng, to explain approximately GH¢22 million in unpaid Value Added Tax (VAT) liabilities. Boatey stated that these arrears accumulated between 2020 and 2024 and represent a significant financial burden inherited by his administration.
The disclosure has led to a public dispute. Boateng has defended his tenure, claiming he turned GPCL into a profitable institution and accusing Boatey of attempting to claim credit for past successes. In response, Boatey challenged Boateng to provide documentary evidence regarding the company’s achievements and to clarify whether the tax obligations were indeed left unpaid during his leadership.
Boatey also highlighted recent operational improvements at GPCL, including the implementation of a three-shift system, the establishment of a modern Digital Press Centre, and an investment of €1.5 million in retooling production lines. He noted that according to the Auditor-General’s 2025 financial statements, the company recorded a profit after tax of GH¢16.9 million, an increase from GH¢2.4 million in 2024.
