Ghana Publishing Company reports profit despite tax liability

The Ghana Publishing Company Limited (GPCL) has reported a significant financial turnaround, posting a profit after tax of approximately GH¢16.96 million in 2025. This represents a 661.36 per cent increase from the GH¢2.23 million recorded in 2024. Managing Director Nana Kwasi Boaitey attributed this growth to operational reforms, including the introduction of a three-shift system and investments in modern printing infrastructure.

However, the company is currently facing an outstanding Value Added Tax (VAT) liability of approximately GH¢22 million, covering the period from 2020 to 2024. Mr. Boaitey stated that management is engaging in negotiations with the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) to determine a settlement plan for the debt, which he characterized as an inherited challenge.

To drive future growth, GPCL is restructuring its operations to expand its West African market presence. Planned improvements include the establishment of a commercial sales department, the launch of a digital platform for gazette applications, and the acquisition of security printing equipment to produce specialized documents such as cheque books.
