Ghana pursues manufacturing growth through international partnerships
Ghana is pursuing strategic international partnerships to bolster its domestic manufacturing and reduce reliance on imported goods. At a Ghana-India Business-to-Business programme in Accra, the Ghana-India Chamber of Commerce (GICC) urged local businesses to move beyond simple importing. Victor Yao Nyakey, Director of Protocol at the GICC, emphasized that commercial cooperation should focus on technology transfer, knowledge sharing, and productive investments to transform Ghanaian enterprises into manufacturing entities.
In the healthcare sector, Ghana aims to produce its first locally manufactured vaccine by 2027. Dr. Sodzi Sodzi-Tettey, CEO of the National Vaccine Institute (NVI), announced that work is underway on a tetanus-diphtheria vaccine at Atlantic Lifesciences Limited. This initiative is being developed through a partnership with Indonesia’s PT Bio Farma. The project involves a technology transfer agreement and collaboration between the NVI, Atlantic Lifesciences Limited, the Noguchi Memorial Institute for Medical Research, and Indonesian regulatory authorities to increase domestic production capacity.
