Ghana raises electricity and water tariffs in July 2026

The Public Utilities Regulatory Commission (PURC) announced that, effective 1 July 2026, electricity tariffs in Ghana will rise by 3.49 percent and water tariffs by 0.85 percent. The adjustment follows the commission’s quarterly review, which takes account of the Ghana cedi’s exchange rate against the US dollar, prevailing inflation and the cost of natural gas used for power generation. The weighted average exchange rate applied was GH¢11.2228 per US $, inflation averaged 3.43 % over the past three months and natural‑gas prices fell 1.58 % to US$7.9708 per MMBtu.

Under the new structure, residential customers on the lifeline electricity tariff will pay 89.93 pesewas per kilowatt‑hour (up from 86.9 pesewas), while lifeline water users will be charged 598.54 pesewas per cubic metre (up from 593.49 pesewas). Service charges for all customer categories remain unchanged. PURC said the changes are intended to preserve the real value of tariffs, ensure the financial viability of utility providers and maintain reliable service delivery.
